Welcome

Hello, welcome to the Bella Doma Blog!

This is a project that has been on my mind for a number of years now, and I am so happy to finally see it taking shape.

Bella Doma is about combining nature and society in a beautiful and sustainable way, going back to our roots while still advancing technologically.

My dream has always been to build a house with my hands. In the fourth grade, my teacher showed us how to build with adobe, what plants in our yards were edible, and how to respect the earth. Years later, that teacher, Mary, is running a beautiful and successful therapy farm, simply called Mary’s Farm.

Over the 15 or so years since I was first introduced to natural building and sustainability, I have only grown my need for nature. I took up photography and film, focusing mostly on the natural world, and, inspired by the work of Louie Schwartzberg, I decided to go to film school. I tucked my future home plans in the back of my mind and lived quietly in the big city for awhile. I shared a home with my best friend and business partner, Selena, and we found our dreams to be well aligned, but were both too busy with our studies to just start a business.

While at film school I also met my husband, and we started a small production company, Yes Dear Productions, as an outlet for our nerdiness and creativity. Even though he often dreams of a ‘normal’ house, he encourages me and supports my work on Bella Doma.

By this point, you’re likely thinking, okay, we get what it’s about, but what does Bella Doma do?

The goal of Bella Doma is to be a Bed and Breakfast, built with natural and sustainable methods, and a restaurant that focuses on local crops, grown on site. This also means having a permaculture farm, of course, for the restaurant, and ideally a food forest and walking trails. We also want to have a creative hub, where local artists and entrepreneurs can sell their goods, teach their craft, and interact with the community.

Basically, we want Bella Doma to feel like home.
