Even in these cold winter months, we need to get outside and enjoy ourselves. Yes, I find it cold in Victoria! (I’m sure my Alberta friends are judging me.) So, that makes it hard to dedicate any time to a hike when I enjoy myself just fine inside with blankets and a TV screen. Therefore, to help you and I get out of any winter blues, I looked up what awesome environmental events are currently taking place. Certainly something to at least get you out into the community.

Moss Street Market Every Saturday
Every Saturday! That’s commitment. I love it. Winter hours are 10am - noon at the Garry Oak Room (1335 Thurlow) until April 2017, when they will be moving it back outdoors. Visit the market because it’s the perfect way to support your neighbours.

Hiking Everyday
This one is up to you as far as scheduling goes, but there are so many options. Victoria is a gorgeous city to live in and we should appreciate it! Some of my favourite hiking spots include Mount Doug, Mount Finlayson, and Elk Lake, depending on my energy level of course. Guys, there are also meet up groups for hiking. Pretty awesome!

Cool It! In Your Community Free Family Workshop January 28, 2017
A healthy planet starts with education! For our Vancouver families, try this free workshop focused on how to reduce GHG emissions. I think this is lovely because it gets kids thinking about their impact on the earth at an early age. Complete with prizes!

Birds of a Feather: Wings of Winter - at Stanley Park January 29, 2017
Stanley Park Ecology Society invites you to learn how to identify migratory birds on an easy walking tour. If I lived there I would certainly put this in my calendar. Stanley Park is beautiful and it would be nice to walk with someone who can point out interesting behaviours of the wildlife we share the park with.

Bella Doma In Progress
Eventually Bella Doma will be able to make it’s own list of awesome workshops and events. Something to look forward too!
